Mayor Miriam Green has served continuously on Town Council since the Towns’ founding in 1992!  Serving first as a Town Council member for 22 years, she was elected Mayor in 2014. Mayor Green was born in nearby McClellanville and moved to Awendaw is 1971. She serves on the Town’s Finance and Blue Crab Festival Committees and initiated the Annual Back to School Celebration.
She retired after working for 43 years at Berkeley Electric Cooperative as Vice President of Community Development.  She attended McClellanville and Lincoln High Schools and has a Bachelor’s of Arts in Organizational Management.

She has received numerous awards including the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Pioneer Leadership Award and the Senior Citizen Leadership Award. She is a member of the Concerned Citizen-Senior Committee, The Urban League, Seewee to Santee Committee, Awendaw Advisory Fire District Board, Palmetto Community Action, and the Rural Mission. She is a member of the Church at LifePark.

Mayor Green is married to Robert L. Green, Sr. and the mother two children, Robert, Jr. and April Mazyck and grandmother to Morgan and Drayton Green. Mayor Green also loves to cook, cater, and enjoy her time with her family. Most of all she is a strong advocate for the youth and the community that she loves and serves.
