If you are interested in serving on the board, please fill out the Application for Appointment. Once completed, please submit a copy to the Town Administrator, Katharine Watkins in Town Hall or via email: [email protected]. Applications will be accepted until Tuesday, June 2, 2026. 

The council will make the appointment to fill the vacancies during the June 4 Town Council Regular Meeting.

If you see smoke in the area, please do not be alarmed. Smoke conditions may be visible in our community due to ongoing wildfires in parts of South Carolina and Georgia. Changing wind patterns can carry smoke many miles, even when there is no active fire nearby.

Please do not call 911 to report smoke alone. Call 911 immediately if you see visible flames, a fire, or an emergency situation. Keeping emergency lines open for active emergencies helps us respond quickly when every second counts.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and encourage residents to stay aware of local conditions.

If you have respiratory concerns, consider limiting outdoor activity when smoke is present. Stay safe, Awendaw and McClellanville.

​According to the National Weather Service, Charleston County is currently experiencing severe drought conditions. A map of these conditions is available here: Charleston County, SC | U.S. Drought Monitor. During this period, we ask all water customers with irrigation systems to reduce the duration and frequency of use. Please irrigate your yard only once a week, for a maximum of 1 hour. This will increase the time water spends in contact with the town's treatment and should improve conditions starting next week. 

Staff have been logging every water complaint received from the town's water operator. If you would like to make a complaint, please call Town Hall or email the Town Administrator: [email protected]. While an immediate response may not be possible, all complaints are being addressed. 

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. The town is dedicated to the continual improvement of our system and the services we provide.

The Town Council of Awendaw, South Carolina, will hold a public hearing on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 6:30 PM at Town Hall located at 6971 Doar Road, Awendaw, SC 29429, on the following ordinances:

• Ordinance 2026-10: An ordinance of the Town of Awendaw, South Carolina, to amend Title XV: Land Usage, Chapter 153: Zoning Code, General Provisions of the Code of the Town of Awendaw, South Carolina, by Amending Section 153.009 Definitions, adopting a new Section 153.051 Vested Rights, along with new Sections 152.052 through 153.060 thereto, providing for vested rights ordinance and procedure.
• Ordinance 2026-11: An ordinance of The Town of Awendaw, South Carolina, to amend Title XV: Land Usage, Chapter 153: Zoning Code, Section 153.009 Definitions to include a definition of “Structure.”

A copy of the draft ordinances is available for viewing at Town Hall during regular business hours (Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM) or on the town’s website.
