The Town of Awendaw is in the process of updating and improving many of our public forms to make them easier to access and use.

Since the last update on April 15, 2026, Charleston County continues to experience extreme drought conditions. This severe condition is an unprecedented experience for the Lowcountry and has created extremely high demand on the water system, especially during our peak hours: 4:30 am- 10:30 am and 4:30 - 7:30 pm. We have asked everyone with an irrigation system to reduce their water flow to reduce the duration and frequency of use. Please irrigate your yard only once a week, for a maximum of 1 hour. This reduction is critical to reducing the high demand on the system. The Town understands that high usage has reduced the amount of contact time with the Chlorine, reducing the hydrogen sulfide smell. Staff have been logging every water complaint received from the Town's water operator. If you would like to make a complaint, please call Town Hall or email the Town Administrator: [email protected]. Due to the high volume of complaints, staff do not have the capacity to respond to each inquiry individually. However, every complaint has been addressed to work towards a solution with the operator during this time. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. Awendaw, South Carolina — May 14, 2026 — The Town of Awendaw proudly announces the grand opening of its newest public park, Town of Awendaw Municipal Park, a vibrant green space designed to bring the community together while promoting outdoor activity, relaxation, and environmental stewardship. Located at 7804 Doar Road, the park is 292 acres and features a wide range of amenities for visitors of all ages, including walking and biking trails, open fields, and a 60-acre lake. The park also incorporates sustainable design elements, such as native plantings, and is planning ecofriendly infrastructure. This park represents a major investment in the well-being of our community. It’s a place where families can gather, children can play, and residents can connect with nature right in their neighborhood. The project was developed with input from the community and the Town of Awendaw Municipal Park Foundation Board, ensuring the space reflects the needs and values of the people it serves. The park is a passive park and was provided by Charleston County Greenbelt funds. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on April 18th, featuring remarks from local officials. The Town of Awendaw invites all residents and visitors to come experience The Town of Awendaw Municipal Park and enjoy everything it has to offer. The council will make the appointment to fill the vacancies during the June 4 Town Council Regular Meeting. The Town of Awendaw values equity and inclusion and seeks to appoint board, commission and committee members that reflect the diversity of our community. Smoke conditions may be visible in our community due to ongoing wildfires in parts of South Carolina and Georgia. Changing wind patterns can carry smoke many miles, even when there is no active fire nearby. Please do not call 911 to report smoke alone. Call 911 immediately if you see visible flames, a fire, or an emergency situation. Keeping emergency lines open for active emergencies helps us respond quickly when every second counts. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and encourage residents to stay aware of local conditions. If you have respiratory concerns, consider limiting outdoor activity when smoke is present. Stay safe, Awendaw and McClellanville.  According to the National Weather Service, Charleston County is currently experiencing severe drought conditions. During this period, we ask all water customers with irrigation systems to reduce the duration and frequency of use. Please irrigate your yard only once a week, for a maximum of 1 hour. This will increase the time water spends in contact with the town's treatment and should improve conditions starting next week.
